Not to Miss: The Singapour en France  

This year, there are many activities that will showcase our nation. We are excited of a particular festival happening on March 26 to June 30, 2015. The festival is called Singapour en France. This is an opportunity for us to exhibit our art, culture and heritage right in the heart of France – Paris.

In commemoration of our 50 years of independence and diplomatic ties with France, we will display our country’s pride and honour at the festival. This is our way of showing to the world that we participate in global arena but we are still humbled and rooted in our region. The exciting part is the some displays will be brought home so we can appreciate the art, culture and heritage.

Here are some showcases and performances for the Singapour en France festival that we need to look forward:

  • The Singaporean: The Singaporean is a show that is directed by Ong Keng Sen. It will happen on March 26 and 27, 2015 at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris. The performance is three hours. For three hours, the audience will be treated with different materials like films and videos. What’s exciting is that the performers will mingle with the audience to make it more interactive. The show is set to debut there. After Paris, the show will be brought here for the Singapore International Festival of Arts celebration.
  • Secret Archipelago: Secret Archipelago will exhibit arts of the Southeast Asian region. This will be presented by the National Heritage Board in collaboration with Palais de Tokyo on March 26 and 27, 2015. There will be contemporary arts to be installed and will feature artworks from newly commissioned artists. There will be curator talks and appearances of artists during the show.

  • Est/Ouest – Nord/Sud: For music enthusiasts, there will be an Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne on March 29, 2015 conducted by our very own conductor. It will happen at La Philharmonie, Cite de la Musique, Paris. The classical concert will feature pipa soloist.
  • Art Garden: For family-goers, there will be a contemporary art section where interactive displays are abundant. This will be on April 15 to 16, 2015 at the Gare Saing-Sauveur Lille. This is again presented by the National Heritage Board with the participation of France’s lille3000.
  • Akalika 7: This show will present contemporary dances. It will happen on April 7 to 10, 2015 at the Le Tarmac, Paris. This is presented by Frontier Danceland with the participation of France’s KHAM Compagnie. The dances will showcase our culture and other issues.
